'Truly revolutionary' – Ivan Illich
Our book for November is Paulo Feire's 1968 classic Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Banned in apartheid South Africa, and even recently banned in certain Arizona classrooms, this is a truly revolutionary book. Freire shows how the process of learning should be cooperative and dynamic, with the student as the co-creator of knowledge. As the teaching of anti-capitalism is now threatened in UK classrooms, this book is a must-read.
